Believe it or not, there are ways you can enhance your treatments and make the results even better than you imagined. A lot of the time people don’t think about these things before getting their makeup or their hair done, but it makes huge difference and you’ll be glad you did on the day! Booked in with us at Makeup and Mane or elsewhere? Here are five ways for you to prepare yourself for your treatment.
#1 Turn up with your skin and hair product-free
Showing up to your makeup or hair appointment free from product is an absolute dream. If you have dirty skin and hair clogged with hairspray or gel, it only makes your artist’s job harder, and wastes time which could be spent on your treatment. If you’re going to the hairdressers to get a colour, the dye is put straight onto your dry hair so coming with it completely filthy isn’t appropriate. Makeup artists will always clean your face to remove access oil before the application, but if you’re going to show up with a full-face on you’re going to take a good 10 minutes off the time your artist could be making you look and feel gorgeous.
#2 Lightly exfoliate and moisturise the night before
The night before your makeup appointment it is a good idea to lightly exfoliate and moisturise your face. Although the skin prep before the application will help to remove some dead skin, it won’t tackle harsh dry patches and texture. If you can do this the night before it means your skin will be balanced and even resulting in a flawless result when you get your makeup done. Makeup artists can hide discolouration but not texture, so if you want that stunning smooth base it’s down to you!
#3 Come with brows that are waxed/plucked
If you want that sharp, precise brow look or for them to look super clean then make sure your brows are either waxed or plucked leading up to your appointment. Makeup artists can only work with what they have right in front of them so if you have stray hairs surrounding your brows then, unfortunately, they’ll still be visible at the end of your appointment.
#4 Bring inspiration images
When going to any kind of appointment it’s a good idea to bring along inspiration images which are clear and realistic. This will make it a lot easier for your artist to establish your goal and means they can use the images as a guide when creating your new look. These images must be realistic, so be smart about your choice. Can the artist achieve that in your allocated time and will it take more than one sitting? Hair colour is something that may be a process rather than a one-day thing and, if it’s a makeup appointment, expect differences. Makeup will be adjusted depending on face shape, eye shape and skin tone, so you can’t expect to look the same.

#5 Come hydrated and relaxed
Your appointments are supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable and they will be exactly that if you’re prepared. Turn up ready to sit, chat and relax throughout the whole process. If you have a hair appointment you will probably be in the chair for a good half of the day, if not most of it, so stay hydrated and be ready. Your artist will take the lead and remember that they do this every day, so you’re in safe hands!
