As a pro makeup artist, it’s essential to be able to style hair, too. This means having a well put-together hair kit of products that you know will work for any style necessary. I’m going to talk you through the heated tools you need in this kit and suggest some solid options.

Hot tools are a staple for any hair style that needs to hold, this could be a hair dryer, curling tongs, straighteners or hot rollers and all are important to have in your kit and know how to use correctly. When using any heat on the hair it is essential to always prep the hair first with a good heat protectant, to prevent any damage to the hair. When using other styling products such as mousses or curling crème’s, these should also be applied prior to using heat.

Hair Dryer

Mark Hill Salon Professional Hair Dryer, £59.99.

goodhousekeeping.co.uk

The Mark Hill Hairdryer is a great option for your kit, it has 5x airflow and 5x heat combo making it perfect for styling and drying. It comes with a slim precision nozzle and a diffuser for different styles. This hairdryer is kitted out with an iconic jet with an argan oil and keratin coating to keep your hair super smooth.

Curling Tongs

The GHD soft curve tong has a large 32mm barrel which is ideal for creating volume and tumbling soft, bouncy curls on long hair, or a soft wave on shorter hair. The classic curl tong has a smaller 26mm barrel to create consistent curls for a classic style with volume, even on shorter hair. Both are great options to keep in your kit, they heat to 185° for optimum styling and automatically turn off if left unattended for 30 minutes.

Straightener

GHD Platinum+, £189.

Hot Rollers are a staple in a hair kit for creating a range of styles, from big bouncy curls to period styles. This set of hot rollers comes with 20 rollers, 8 medium (25mm) and 12 large (32mm) that heat up in just 90 seconds and sets and cools in 5 minutes. For very thick or long hair, you may need 2 sets of rollers. For some styles, you may need very small rollers so it’s a good idea to also keep a set of those in your kit too.
