Skincare Essentials For Your Pro Kit

As a makeup artist, there are certain types of skincare products that you should keep in your kit so that you’re prepared for every client and their skin type.

As a makeup artist, there are certain types of skincare products that you should keep in your kit so that you’re prepared for every client and their skin type. This means that you need to be knowledgeable about all of the products you keep in your kit such as what skin type their intended for, the key ingredients in case of allergies and any possible reactions, especially when dealing with a product containing chemicals such as AHAs and BHAs. It is essential that before applying any product to the skin, you ask your client about allergies and their skin problems/worries.

Skin preparation is the key to a flawless base and to correctly prep the skin, you need to use the correct products. In this post I’ll break down each product you should have as well as a few optional extras and discuss why their perfect for a makeup artist’s kit with a breakdown of their key ingredients and skin type intention.

Cleanser is essential to remove any dirt, oils and impurities from the skin which is necessary for long-lasting makeup. Choosing the correct cleaser is important as you want one that doesn’t leave any residue and is safe for use all over the face and eye area.

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water 500ml, £19.50

Whilst this may seem slightly expensive for a micellar water when there are great in-expensive alternatives available, Bioderma is one of the original creators of this product and their formula is unmatched. It is designed specifically for sensitive skin types, which is perfect to use on all skin types as it won’t cause any irritation. It has an ultra-mild formula to remove impurities, soothe redness and irritation and minimise tightness. It is also available to purchase with a pump top which is perfect for your kit for minimal cross-contamination. The formula is alcohol and fragrance free and hypoallergenic.

The top ingredient is aqua so it’s going to be really gentle on the skin and also has cucumber extract and fruit extracts which is going to be soothing for all skin types.

Toner is an important step in skin preparation that some people often forget about, but the correct toner can remove any residue from makeup removers, can hydrate the skin, help to balance the skins’ PH levels as well as help with skin imperfections. Some people will choose to have a chemically exfoliating toner in their kit however, it is often safer to have something more hydrating and suitable for all skin types.

This toner leaves the skin silky soft and hydrated.

Facial Oil

A facial oil in your kit is an optional extra, not necessarily a necessity but it can be beneficial to keep in your kit for extreme cases. Sometimes, when skin is very dry, or even oily, a facial oil is an essential step prior to makeup application to ensure a smooth base.
